What It Does
Same HAC performance at 120 Vac. No separate transformer. No low-voltage circuit required.
The HAC-12 is the 120 Vac version of the standard HAC inline fresh air damper. A built-in transformer steps 120 Vac down to 24 Vac internally: you run a single 120 Vac switched circuit to the damper and it handles the voltage conversion. No separate transformer to mount, no secondary low-voltage wiring run, no additional panel space required. Same open/close control, same spring return fail-safe, same PO/PC configuration as the standard HAC.
Do not supply 24 Vac to a HAC-12. The built-in transformer requires 120 Vac input. Supplying 24 Vac will result in product damage and will not operate the damper. Before wiring, verify the supply voltage matches the product, 120 Vac for the HAC-12, 24 Vac for the standard HAC.

How the built-in transformer works: The HAC-12 uses a Hansen motor with a 24 Vac spring return mechanism: the same spring return operation as the standard HAC. The built-in transformer takes 120 Vac from the supply circuit and steps it down to 24 Vac to power the motor internally. The transformer is integrated into the motor assembly and is not field-replaceable independently of the motor. If the transformer fails, the motor kit is the service part.

No relay option on HAC-12. The 12 motor code does not include relay capability. If a relay output is required, use the standard 24 Vac HAC with the relay option (11 motor code) and the appropriate ADP relay adaptor. If the site only has 120 Vac and furnace fan sequencing is required, discuss the wiring approach with your controls supplier: a line-voltage relay in the control circuit may bridge the two.

What happens if I accidentally wire 24 Vac to a HAC-12?
The built-in transformer is designed for 120 Vac input. Applying 24 Vac will not operate the damper and may damage the transformer. Before wiring, verify the supply voltage matches the product, 120 Vac for the HAC-12, 24 Vac for the standard HAC. If 24 Vac is available at the location, the standard HAC is the correct product.
Can I use the HAC-12 with an ADP relay adaptor for furnace fan sequencing?
The ADP relay adaptor series is designed for 24 Vac control circuits. The HAC-12's 120 Vac supply circuit is not directly compatible with the ADP output. For applications requiring furnace fan sequencing with a fresh air damper interlock, use the standard 24 Vac HAC with the ADP-0241-05A. If the site only has 120 Vac and a furnace fan interlock is required, discuss the wiring approach with your controls supplier.
Is the relay available on the HAC-12?
No: the HAC-12 motor code (12) does not include relay capability. This applies equally to HAC-12, HAC-12H, and HAC-12L. If a relay output is required, use the standard 24 Vac HAC with the relay option (11 motor code) and the appropriate ADP relay adaptor.
Is the HAC-12 available in 2" or 3"?
No: the HAC-12 is available in 4" through 9" only. The 2" and 3" sizes are available in the standard 24 Vac HAC only.
Can the HAC-12 be controlled from a standard residential thermostat?
Only if the thermostat has a 120 Vac switched output, which most residential thermostats do not. Standard residential thermostats output 24 Vac. If your thermostat outputs 24 Vac, use the standard HAC. The HAC-12 is the correct choice when the damper is being controlled from a 120 Vac manual switch, timer, or line-voltage relay.
