Belimo FSLF120 US Actuator — Hoyme HAC-80 UL 555S Fire and Smoke Damper 120 Vac
Is this the right product?
✔ Right product if
The project requires a UL 555S listed smoke damper actuator AND only 120 Vac is available at the damper location — no 24 Vac low-voltage control circuit.
✗ Not this product if
24 Vac is available → use HAC-90 (FSLF24 US) — simpler BAS and fire alarm integration.

No UL 555S listing required → use HAC-44 (TFB120) for line-voltage on/off at significantly lower cost.

What It Does

UL 555S listed smoke damper actuator. 120 Vac. Line-voltage companion to the HAC-90 (FSLF24 US).

Do Not Substitute HAC-44 (TFB120) on Smoke Damper Applications The standard Belimo TFB120 is NOT UL 555S listed and does NOT qualify for smoke damper service. Substituting TFB120 for FSLF120 US on a code-required smoke damper application will not pass inspection. The AHJ will require replacement with a listed actuator. The cost of replacement — actuator, labour, project delay, re-inspection — substantially exceeds the price premium of specifying the HAC-80 correctly the first time.
Action Code (PO/PC) — From the Fire Protection Engineer in Writing Do not assume or default to PO or PC. The fail-safe direction is a life-safety decision that affects the building's smoke control performance, certificate of occupancy, and building owner liability. Get the action code from the fire protection engineer in writing before ordering.

The HAC-80 pairs Hoyme's inline damper body with the Belimo FSLF120 US — the 120 Vac version of the FSLF fire and smoke actuator series. Same UL 555S listing as the FSLF24 US used in the HAC-90. Same smoke damper application requirements. Same elevated temperature construction and UL 555S torque and actuation speed requirements. The single difference from the HAC-90 is supply voltage: the FSLF120 US accepts 120 Vac directly, eliminating the need for a step-down transformer or low-voltage control circuit at the damper location.

FSLF24 US vs. FSLF120 US — Voltage Is the Only Difference

Both carry UL 555S listing. Both meet the same smoke damper actuator requirements. Use the one that matches your available supply voltage.

Choose When 24 Vac control available — preferred for BAS/fire alarm integration Only line voltage available at damper location
When 24 Vac is available, use the HAC-90: The HAC-90 (FSLF24 US) is the simpler choice when 24 Vac is available — 24 Vac control wiring is typically already part of the BAS or fire alarm infrastructure. Use the HAC-80 when only line voltage is available and adding a step-down transformer is impractical or not permitted by the smoke control system design.

Smoke Control System Integration

The HAC-80 operates as part of the building smoke control system — not independently as an HVAC component.

The FSLF120 US actuator receives its fail-safe signal from the smoke control panel or fire alarm system, which initiates damper movement as part of the engineered smoke control sequence. The installation contractor coordinates with the fire protection engineer and fire alarm system installer on control wiring, fail-safe signal source, and commissioning verification.

End switch wiring: End switch wiring requirements on the HAC-80 are defined by the smoke control system design, not by the HVAC contractor. Confirm with the fire protection engineer before ordering to ensure the end switch configuration matches the system design.

Variant Code Action End Switch Heat Bypass Part Number Example (10")
OPO Spring-open on power loss No No bypass HAC-1080-OPO
OPO-H Spring-open on power loss No 10% bypass HAC-1080-OPO-H
SPO Spring-open on power loss Yes No bypass HAC-1080-SPO

OPC Spring-close on power loss No No bypass HAC-1080-OPC
OPC-H Spring-close on power loss No 10% bypass HAC-1080-OPC-H
SPC Spring-close on power loss Yes No bypass HAC-1080-SPC
SPC-H Spring-close on power loss Yes 10% bypass HAC-1080-SPC-H
Pricing Anomaly at 20" — Confirm Before Ordering: At 20", the end switch variants (SPO and SPC) are priced lower than the non-end-switch variants (OPO and OPC) — the inverse of the expected pattern. Confirm current pricing for the 20" variants with your wholesaler before ordering at this size.
−H Heat Bypass on Smoke Dampers — Confirm with Fire Protection Engineer: The −H bypass maintains a 10% permanent opening that may conflict with the smoke containment performance required by the smoke control sequence. Do not specify −H on smoke damper applications without explicit confirmation from the fire protection engineer.

Common Questions from the Counter

Answers to what comes up most when specifying the HAC-80.

What's the difference between the HAC-80 and the HAC-90?
Voltage only. The HAC-80 uses the FSLF120 US (120 Vac); the HAC-90 uses the FSLF24 US (24 Vac/dc). Both carry UL 555S listing. Both meet the same smoke damper actuator requirements. Use the HAC-90 when 24 Vac is available — it's the simpler integration into BAS and fire alarm systems that typically operate on low voltage. Use the HAC-80 when only 120 Vac line voltage is available at the damper location.
Can I use the TFB120 (HAC-44) instead of the FSLF120 US to save cost?
No. The TFB120 is not UL 555S listed and does not meet the torque, actuation speed, elevated temperature performance, or smoke-laden air construction requirements for smoke damper service. Substituting TFB120 for FSLF120 US will not pass inspection on a code-required smoke damper application. The consequences — replacement cost, labour, project delay, and potential re-inspection fee — substantially exceed the price premium of the listed actuator. Do not make this substitution.
Who specifies the action code?
The fire protection engineer, based on the smoke control sequence of operations for the building. The action code determines which position the damper moves to when the smoke control signal is activated or power is lost during a fire event. Different locations in the same smoke control system may require different action codes. Get it in writing before ordering.
Does the HAC-80 work on 208/240 Vac systems?
The FSLF120 US is rated for 120 Vac. For 208/240 Vac systems, confirm with Belimo or Hoyme whether the FSLF120 US is rated for that voltage before specifying. Do not assume the 120 Vac rating extends to higher voltages without confirmation.
After replacing an FSLF120 US actuator, does the smoke control system need to be recommissioned?
Yes — after any smoke damper actuator replacement, the smoke damper system must be tested and the replacement documented per the building's smoke control system maintenance requirements and applicable code. Confirm recommissioning requirements with the building owner, fire alarm contractor, and AHJ before performing the replacement.
