NOT CSA CERTIFIED — Read Before Ordering

The HAC-FS is not CSA certified. This is stated explicitly in Hoyme product documentation. If your project requires a CSA-certified flue damper — permitted residential or commercial installation, AHJ sign-off required, building inspection — order the HAC-F, not the HAC-FS. Confirm certification requirements with the AHJ before ordering this product.

If there is any uncertainty about whether CSA certification is required for your application: order the HAC-F. The cost difference is recoverable. The cost of replacing a non-certified damper after a failed inspection is not.

HAC-FS — Motorized Flue Special Damper

Same hardware as the HAC-F Large Diameter. Not CSA certified. For applications where certification is genuinely not required.

The HAC-FS uses the same Hoyme damper body, Belimo TFB24 actuator, and Power Close / Spring Open (SPC-F) fail-safe configuration as the HAC-F Large Diameter series. Relay and end switch are included on every unit. The single difference is CSA certification — the HAC-FS does not carry it. For applications where certification is genuinely not required by the AHJ, the HAC-FS provides the same mechanical performance at a lower price point.

Available in even sizes from 14" through 30". 2-year electrical / 10-year mechanical warranty.

Appliance interlock is required regardless of certification status. Always interlock the HAC-FS with the appliance controls using an ADP relay adaptor. Operating a motorized flue damper without appliance interlock is a safety risk. The end switch and relay are included on every HAC-FS unit — use them. The appliance must not fire until the end switch confirms the flue is open.

Why would I choose the HAC-FS over the HAC-F if they're the same hardware?
The only reason is cost, and the only time that reason is valid is when CSA certification is genuinely not required by the AHJ for the specific application. The HAC-FS is not a budget substitute for the HAC-F on permitted jobs — it is a product for a specific category of non-permitted or private industrial applications where the AHJ has no certification requirement. If certification is required or uncertain, the HAC-F Large Diameter is the correct product.
What happens if I install the HAC-FS on a job that turns out to require certification?
The AHJ will require the non-certified product to be replaced with a certified one before the inspection passes. That means removing the installed damper, ordering the HAC-F, reinstalling, and paying labour twice. The price difference between the HAC-FS and HAC-F is a fraction of that cost. If there is any uncertainty, order the HAC-F.
Does the HAC-FS still need to be interlocked with the appliance?
Yes — always. Certification status does not change the safety requirement for appliance interlock on a motorized flue damper. The appliance must not fire until the end switch confirms the HAC-FS is in the spring-open (flue clear) position. Use an ADP relay adaptor matched to the appliance type. The relay and end switch are included on every HAC-FS unit specifically because the interlock is required.
Is the HAC-FS available in sizes smaller than 14"?
No. The 10" and 12" sizes are only available as the certified HAC-F Large Diameter. The HAC-FS starts at 14" — the size range where the non-certified option becomes relevant for specific industrial applications.
